I used to be the Skate Guide at About, Inc. Won't whine about what I could and couldn't accomplish in that particular forum or why. Suffice it to say I couldn't give them what they wanted. But I did, in the process, manage to amass several articles regarding the sport/art that is skateboarding and upon my withdrawal have decided to go ahead and establish this site not only for purposes of posterity but also as a way to continue to pursue my interest, hopefully in a manner more suited to my personal taste.
I'm the 31 year old mother of one son. Do I skate? Yeah. Do I suck? Pretty much. My purpose here is not to ingratiate myself into the skating community or to try to reframe it into something it is not, but to simply show an interest. I love skateboarding. I love what it is, what it has been and what it will no doubt be in the future and have felt as much for many years. So, you who are skaters, take a compliment and don't send me any hate mail. I don't want to change you. I only wish to admire from afar.
I know you've seen sites that are designed better than this one. So have we all. In fact, I've developed much better myself. My purpose in this particular project is not to work too hard at it, so it'll be primarily text based for the bulk with not a lot of bells and whistles. The background is the way it is because it is the very first background I ever created from scratch on actual paper with my own hand and I must say I'm rather proud of it. I'm certainly no artist or graphics designer, but that just makes the accomplishment so much tastier. It is mine all mine all mine and I'm proud of it. The three skaters up top are of the same genre. I sketched them by hand and uploaded them and I like them not because they are great art, but because upon close inspection, one can actually discern that they are in fact skaters, and that for me is a great achievement.
'K then. Onward and upward.
